General Tips to play Augusta National Golf Club

Despite its length the recipe for success at Augusta National Golf Club starts and ends with accurate approach shots. With the greens and surrounding contours being the courses primary defense accurate approach shots are a must if one expects to score well here. Caddytips suggest practicing your mid to long iron approach game prior to playing Augusta National Golf Club. Take some shag balls to a hole with water on the approach. Hole 8
Uphill – par 5 – 570 yds.

Tee shot: This tee shot will play slightly uphill and tempts players to challenge the lone fairway bunker on the right if they intend to go for the green in two. Balls finishing on the right half of the fairway will have an ideal angle for the following shot.

Second shot: To lay up players will target the right side of the fairway as this presents the best angle to approach the green from. An ideal layup will end on the right center portion of the fairway between 90 and 120 yds. from the green. If a player elects to go for the green in two the shot will play 2-3 clubs uphill as the green sits nearly 60 ft. above the fairway landing zone. The bailout for this shot will be to the right as steep mounds surround the back left portion of the putting surface.

Approach shot: From 100 yds. out this shot will play slightly uphill and it is possible to run a shot onto the putting surface (especially from the right side of the fairway).

Green: The front of the green runs from back to front and bowls towards the center with the left side falling right and the right side falling left. The back of the green is pitched from back to front and mainly left to right off the mounds that guard the green.

In 2009 I battled throat cancer and won and as a special surprise, my best friend arranged for me to play Augusta National through one of his clients. I was out of my mind excited but nervous at the same time. I wanted to play my best so my preparation started early in the form of online research. That's how I found Caddytips. I downloaded the tips and read them over and over again and replayed the holes I knew from watching the Masters for so many years. The tips were detailed and helped me conceptualize each hole shot by shot. I found them to be extremely helpful as a guide prior to my round. I was a little hesitant to pull the tips out during the round as I was not too sure if they would be allowed due to the strict nature of Augusta National, plus we had caddies. But I did find myself pulling them out to read whether a shot played uphill or downhill, 1 or 2 clubs when the caddy was not available. All in all, I found these tips to be extremely useful and very well constructed! I would highly recommend them to any and every golfer out there. I am a twelve handicap and I bet you the prep I did prior to my round with the tips saved me at least 4 to five shots.
